Shoofly Pie (or Melassichriwwelkuche, for all of you Pennsylvania Dutch speakers out there) is a classic dessert dating back to 1876 when it was created in honor of the American Centennial. It all starts with a made-from-scratch rich and buttery flaky crust, molasses filling, and cinnamon-brown sugar topping. It’s a gooey, moist bottom pie made even more delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Since 1929, Miller’s Bakery has been baking scratch-made breads, pies, and other baked goods in Lancaster County – the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish Country. It all began with Anna Miller serving pies and basic meals to truckers while her husband fixed their rigs in his automotive shop. It wasn’t long before folks started coming by for the food instead of repairs! Today, Miller’s Bakery continues to produce some of the best Pennsylvania Dutch baked goods including shoofly pie, raisin bread, sticky buns and so much more.

Amish Country Bakers Since 1929
Amish Country Bakers Since 1929
Miller's Bakery was born in 1929, when Anna Miller started serving pies and basic meals to truckers while her husband fixed their rigs in his automotive shop. Her cooking was simple but delicious, and it wasn't long before folks started coming by for the food instead of repairs.
From these humble origins, Miller's grew into a Lancaster County institution with a whole host of businesses, including a smorgasbord restaurant, a quilt shop, gift shop, and local food shop. At its heart, though, Miller's is still a simple from scratch restaurant and bakery, serving up Pennsylvania Dutch staples in a dining room with views of working Amish farm fields. All of their pies, breads, sticky buns and cakes are made from scratch, the same way Anna Miller baked back in 1929. Their customers can taste the difference, and it's kept them coming back for generations.
