The square, thick, light and crispy pie with caramelized edges that’s known as Detroit-style pizza originated right here at Buddy’s back in 1946, when returning WWII soldiers told owner Gus Guerra about the pizza they’d eaten in Italy and he set out to recreate it. Buddy’s pizzas start with a double-proofed dough and are built backwards from there, with pepperoni, melty Wisconsin brick cheese and three stripes of sauce added (in that order). There’s nothing else quite like it, and it’s repeatedly been named one of America’s best pizzas.

- Each pizza serves 4 people and measures 9″ × 13″
Pizza Options Include
- Cheese – Buddy’s original Detroit-style cheese pizza is topped with Wisconsin Brick Cheese and their special Original Tomato Sauce.
- Original Pepperoni – Buddy’s version of the classic pepperoni pizza is topped with Margarita pepperoni nestled beneath crumbled Wisconsin Brick Cheese, and finished with Buddy’s original tomato sauce ladled on top.
- Meat Deluxe – Buddy’s take on the classic Meat Deluxe pizza, featuring crispy bacon, Italian sausage, and Margherita pepperoni layered beneath crumbled Wisconsin Brick cheese, all finished with Buddy’s original sauce.
- Pizzas ship frozen with dry ice.
- Dry ice may dissipate in transit and pizza may thaw.
- Do not remove dry ice with bare hands.
- Upon arrival place in the freezer. Pizzas may be kept frozen for up to 1 month.
To Serve
Note: Do not thaw or microwave pizza. Do not eat before cooking.
- Preheat oven to 425℉.
- Remove all packaging and clear wrapping from pizza.
- Keep frozen pizza in the seasoned metal pan.
- Place frozen pizza in the center of the preheated oven.
- Bake for 18-28 minutes. The pizza is ready when the cheese is golden brown and the dough is cooked through. Optimal internal temperature for safety and best quality is 165℉.
- Carefully remove pizza from pan. Pizza will be hot. Cut into squares. Enjoy!

In Detroit, Buddy’s is synonymous with pizza. The square, thick, light and crispy pie with caramelized edges that’s known as Detroit-style pizza originated right here back in 1946, when returning WWII soldiers told owner Gus Guerra about the pizza they’d eaten in Italy and he set out to recreate it. There were no pizza pans around back then, but there were plenty of automotive shops nearby, so someone brought over a rectangular steel tray used to hold nuts and bolts, his chef Connie Piccinato used it to make a pizza, and the rest was history.
Nowadays, Buddy’s has nearly 20 locations in the Detroit area, and within the past few years Detroit-style pizza has crept beyond the borders of Motown and taken the nation by storm. Buddy’s pizzas start with a double-proofed dough and are built backwards from there, with pepperoni, melty Wisconsin brick cheese and three stripes of sauce added (in that order). There’s nothing else quite like it, and it’s something that every pizza lover should try.
