L&B Spumoni Gardens
Brooklynâs Pizza Landmark Since 1939
No discussion about the best pizza in New York City is complete without a mention of L&B, which has been drawing crowds to the South Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend since 1939. That year, Italian immigrant Ludovico Barbati (the L&B) set up a small stand to sell spumoni, a traditional Italian layered gelato. In the 1950s, however, the stand expanded into the beloved, sprawling landmark it is today, and added its signature item to the menu: pizza.
L&Bâs famous pizza isnât the traditional flat NYC slice: Itâs Sicilian-style, with a crispy bottom, fluffy interior, âupside-downâ toppings of a thick layer of melty cheese and tangy sauce on top, finished with a sprinkle of pecorino. L&B is still family-owned all these years later, and crowds still flock there for an only-in-New York experience â one thatâs now shipping nationwide, only on Goldbelly!
