The Elegant Farmer bakes what the Wall Street Journal, Food Network, Gourmet, and countless others have deemed the “best apple pie in America.” What started in 1946 as a small, family-run Wisconsin dairy farm from brothers Dave and Elmer Scheel has grown to a famous farm bringing small-town charm to all, particularly in the form of apple pies baked in a paper bag. It’s a mouthwatering pie bulging with juicy, sweet-tart apples with a light and flaky bottom crust and a charmingly rustic crunchy cracked top crust. More than 250,000 of the Wisconsin bakery’s brown bag apple pies are baked each year!

Home of The Famous Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag

Established in 1946 as a small Wisconsin dairy farm, The Elegant Farmer is now under the leadership of its 4th generation of family ownership, the Schmidt Family. The Elegant Farmer is renowned for its charm and comfort foods, most notably their legendary Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag®.
This pie shatters all of your preconceived notions of what can be hidden inside an average paper bag. Their apples are the perfect balance of firm and tart, and the crust remains flaky in this non-traditional baking method. The delicate, sugar cookie-like crust and hearty sweet-tart apples combine to make for simply the best pie ever. And yes, the pie is actually baked in the bag!
