Round Challah

Oneg Bakery ships its legendary challah nationwide on Goldbelly! This Brooklyn bakery’s Double Chocolate Babka exploded onto the food scene as the world’s densest babka. Our bet is that this insanely good challah is next in line to blow up the internet. During the Jewish new year, challah is round, not braided to symbolize the continuity of a new year starting again; it also looks like a crown, for crowning God as king on Rosh Hashanah. Oneg Bakery is a CRC Kosher bakery.

Opened in the 1980s by two sisters who came to Brooklyn in the mid-1940s as refugees of World War II, Oneg Bakery is a traditional Hungarian Jewish bakery in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Now run by their grandchildren, Oneg Bakery makes Brooklyn’s Biggest, Baddest Babka: the Double Chocolate Babka, which is the world’s densest babka. Challah!

Brooklyn's Biggest, Baddest BABKA. Challah!

New York Magazine says Oneg has "The Absolute Best Babka in New York" and Serious Eats called this one of "the Year's Best Chocolate Babkas." And the NYT calls the bakery "spectacular" and in a neighborhood "lost to time."

Who better to make the world's best babka than people from the country where it originated? The family behind Oneg Bakery's babka recipe were Hungarian Jewish refugees of World War II when they immigrated to NYC in the mid 1940s. Bringing their love for feeding others, the family opened Oneg Bakery in the 1980s to spread their well-loved recipes to all in the neighborhood.

While the family behind Oneg has tried to stay out of the spotlight, take one bite of their Insta worthy double chocolate babka and you'll see why they have a cult following unlike almost any other bakery in the country. With twice as much chocolate as the regular babka (which is already LOADED with chocolate), it's truly a thing of wonder. Better hop on it now as it won't be long before this under the radar bakery is at the top of everyone's list!
