Levee High Caramel Pecan Apple Pie
The pie that landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things: eighteen hand-peeled, hand-placed Golden Delicious apples mounded sky-high in a scratch crust, then cloaked in caramel and pecans that mimic the rocks and mud of the levee it’s named for. Mary Hostetter created the Levee High in 1993 to honor the volunteers who held back the Great Flood. Each one weighs about ten pounds and bakes up hot in your own oven. The Blue Owl’s crowning achievement.
