Walter’s Hot Dogs has been a Westchester, New York family-run institution for more than a century since opening in 1919. Today, patrons queue up at Walter’s Hot Dogs’ pagoda on Palmer Avenue in Mamaroneck for split hot dogs served with mustard on a toasted bun (the copper-roofed pagoda is a Nationally Registered Historical Landmark). Founded by Walter Warrington, Walter’s Hot Dogs was voted number one in the US by Gourmet magazine and the New York Times described the gourmet hot dogs as “topping the whole list” of the best hot dogs across the country in 2004.

- Hot dogs ship with ice packs, may thaw in transit.
- Upon arrival, store hot dogs in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
- Freezing is not recommended.
To Serve
- On a flat top griddle, set heat to medium-high.
- Melt butter on the griddle.
- Place whole hot dogs on the griddle and gently spoon butter over them.
- Cook 2-3 minutes on each side until exterior is golden-brown.
- Once both sides are crisp and golden brown, split hot dogs down the middle using tongs.
- Place hot dogs split-side down on the griddle and add a spoonful of butter on top.
- Top hot dogs with a grill press or plate and cook 2-3 additional minutes.
- While hot dogs are cooking, add butter to the griddle and place buns face-down.
- Avoid placing too much butter to avoid buns becoming soggy.
- Toast buns for 2-3 minutes until golden-brown.
- Once hot dogs have cooked, transfer to toasted buns and slather with mustard.
- Optional: substitute butter with margarine or a non-dairy butter.
- Serve and enjoy!
