Pierogi - Choose Your Own 24 Pack

The dumpling Thrillist calls one of the most important in NYC history, two dozen to a box: braised beef, potato, cheese, arugula and goat cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom, or short rib, however you want to mix them. Veselka has been folding pierogi in the East Village since 1954, when Ukrainian refugees Wolodymyr and Olha Darmochwal turned a Second Avenue newsstand into a New York institution. Boil or pan-fry, then pile on sour cream and caramelized onions the way the regulars do.

To Serve

Pierogis

  • Allow pierogi to defrost completely and cook in salted boiling water for 3-4 minutes.
  • Optional: After boiling, pan-fry pierogis in butter until golden brown.
  • Serve & enjoy!

Potato Pancake

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place frozen pancakes on an ungreased sheet pan.
  • Place in oven and bake for approx. 20-25 minutes, flipping the potato pancakes after the first 10 minutes.
