Back in 1928, Frank Gordy opened a small hot dog stand in Atlanta, serving up all-beef hot dogs topped with savory chili. Nearly a century later, The Varsity is an Atlanta landmark and all-American icon, still family-owned, and as famous for its chili dogs (as made according to Frank’s original recipes), onion rings, burgers, and fried pies as for the lingo of its employees, who famously ask “What’ll ya have” to every customer. There’s no other place quite like The Varsity, and for the first time, it’s shipping nationwide!

- Items ships frozen with ice packs, may thaw in transit.
- Hot Dog Kit may be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Hand pies may be stored in the freezer for up to 10 days or in the refrigerator up to 5 days.
- If you plan to serve chili dogs right away but they arrive frozen solid, place them on the counter or tabletop and let them rest for about 45 minutes, or until the hot dogs can be easily separated. Follow the same instructions for the chili.
To Serve
Varsity Chili
- Open the bag and pour chili into a saucepan.
- Heat to 165°F for food safety.
- Stir frequently to prevent scorching.
- Keep hot chili at 140°F or above until serving.
Hot Dogs
- Bring water to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
- Add hot dogs and cook for 4–5 minutes, or until heated to 150°F
- Remove and drain excess water.
Buns
- Steam buns for 10–15 seconds for a softer texture.
Assemble
- Place the hot dog in the bun.
- Spoon 2–3 oz of hot chili evenly over the dog.
- For traditional chili dog, add mustard
- Serve & enjoy!
Hand Pies
- Leave the hand pie in the wrapping and place in microwave.
- Heat for 1 minute or until it reaches internal temperature of 145°F.
- Serve warm & enjoy!
