Freezer Friendly
Three pies that make the case for New Haven apizza being America’s finest style — from Sally’s Apizza, the coal-fired Wooster Street institution Sal Consiglio opened in 1938 after his training at Frank Pepe’s original shop. The classic Mozzarella & Tomato, the Pepperoni, and the White Potato & Rosemary: each one fired in a coal-burning brick oven that produces a thin, charred crust with a bite that gas ovens have been failing to imitate for 85 years.

Legendary New Haven Pizza Since 1938
Legendary New Haven Pizza Since 1938

New Haven, Connecticut, is one of America’s best cities for pizza (some argue that it’s THE best), and no discussion of New Haven’s most legendary & iconic pizza restaurants is complete without Sally’s Apizza. Sally's is a true New Haven original and a hallowed institution, going strong since its founding on bustling Wooster Street in the heart of the city’s Little Italy by Sal Consiglio and his mother Filomena in 1938.
New Haven pizza (or “apizza,” pronounced “ah-BEETZ” in these parts) is defined by its thin, crispy-yet-chewy, slightly charred crust, courtesy of the intense, dry heat of a coal-burning brick oven (which doesn’t give off steam like wood). At Sally’s Apizza, which has barely changed since day one and is still using the original coal-fired oven, their pizza is absolute perfection, with decades of experience and meticulous attention to detail in every pie, from stretching the slowly fermented dough to knowing exactly when to pull it from the oven. Pizza really doesn’t get more delicious or historic than Sally’s, and for the first time, it’s being delivered nationwide!
