New York Streusel Coffee Cake

Streusel-topped coffee cake is a New York bakery staple and was a favorite of Chef Mark’s as he grew up in Queens. So it’s natural that he’s reworked this classic in his M.O.M. bakery in NYC. Sour cream cake swirled with cinnamon and generously topped with buttery streusel, this cake is perfect for brunches, parties, or to have on hand for any time you want to sneak a sliver with a cup of coffee or tea.

Mark Strausman has been one of New York’s most beloved chefs for more than 30 years. A native New Yorker, he rose to fame at NYC’s Campagna and was elevated to superstar status at Upper East Side phenom Fred’s at Barney’s, which he opened in 1996 and oversaw until its 2020 closure. Mark’s Off Madison, which he opened the following year, is the culmination of his career. At Mark’s, Strausman is bringing together all of the food that put him on the map, with the classical European and rustic Italian dishes of his training as well as the traditional Jewish foods of his upbringing in New York City all combining into a quintessential New York experience.
