Tampa's Landmark Cuban Bakery Since 1915

A Tampa landmark renowned for its fresh-baked Cuban bread, La Segunda was founded in 1915 by Juan Moré, who was born in Spain and opened the bakery after falling in love with Cuban bread while fighting in the Spanish-American War in Cuba. Today, fourth-generation owner Anthony Copeland Moré is keeping Juan’s dream alive in historic Ybor City by producing 18,000 loaves of Cuban bread daily – each topped with a signature palmetto leaf – and La Segunda remains one of just a handful of bakeries that continue to bake Cuban bread in the traditional, labor-intensive way.
But La Segunda is about a lot more than just bread. It’s also turning out addictively delicious Cuban turnovers as well as Cuban and Media Noche sandwiches (a version of the Cuban sandwich made on sweet Hawaiian egg bread) stacked with ham, pork, pickles, Swiss, and – because this is Tampa, not Miami – salami. La Segunda is as authentic as it gets, and it’s now shipping nationwide!
