Jaarsma Bakery

A Family-Owned Taste of Holland Since 1898
The town of Pella, Iowa, is known as “America’s Dutch Treasure,” and Jaarsma Bakery has been a standout among its many Dutch-inspired shops, restaurants, and bakeries since 1898. This beloved local landmark, located on the square in the heart of town, was founded by Harmon Jaarsma, and today it’s run by his great‑great‑granddaughter Lisa and her husband Carl, who keep its legacy alive with recipes that have remained unchanged for more than 100 years.
All of Jaarsma’s classic Dutch treats are made with the utmost care and dedication to doing things exactly as they have for five generations, with only the best quality ingredients. From their famous S-shaped Dutch Letters (which started as a seasonal delicacy on Sinterklaas Day and are now a year-round favorite) to speculaas cookies, Dutch apple bread, and (of course) butter danishes, this is a true taste of Holland, and it’s shipping nationwide!
