Philly’s Landmark Italian Bakery Since 1904
Philly’s Landmark Italian Bakery Since 1904

One of America’s most historic and beloved Italian bakeries, Isgro was founded in 1904 by Sicilian immigrant Mario Isgro, who brought his craft to Philadelphia’s Italian Market after refining his culinary skills in Vienna. Isgro quickly became a neighborhood go-to for its traditional Italian treats like cannoli and old-world Italian cookies, and it remains a neighborhood landmark – still in its original location – to this day.
Mario’s grandson Gus Sarno spent his childhood learning from his grandfather; he took over the business in 1969 and has run it with his wife Lucille ever since. Gus added a few new items to the menu, like his best-selling ricotta cookies, and sons Michael and A.J. manage the baking operation and manage the shop, respectively. Isgro is a true family operation that’s been turning out some of Philly’s best Italian pastries for generations, and now it’s shipping its most beloved foods nationwide!
