While few had even heard of the Royal Red before the mid-90s, it has since grown to be immensely popular with locals and well-informed tourists along the Gulf Coast. Found 60 miles offshore in deep, cool waters up to 1,500 feet down, this shrimp can only be caught by the handful of fishermen licensed to do so. The shrimp is frozen immediately after catching, preserving its flavor and texture. Royal Red shrimp can be identified by their large size, rich crimson color, and naturally salty and flavorful taste that has been compared to both lobster and bay scallops.
Perched near the beautiful white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, since the 1950s, Gulf Shores Seafood is renowned for its impeccably fresh Gulf seafood caught just offshore as well as family-recipe dishes made with it, including seafood dip and gumbo.
