Detroit native April Anderson knew that she wanted to be a baker by the age of 9, and she founded her first home-based baking business in 2008. After continuing to hone her skills, she teamed up with her wife Michelle and opened Good Cakes & Bakes in 2013 on Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion.
Good Cakes & Bakes’ mission is to use only the freshest and most natural ingredients, including locally-grown produce, in their wholesome, organic Southern-inspired baked goods. It’s become a community gathering place, and the locals have fallen in love with Anderson’s world-class signature lemon velvet, red velvet, and vegan carrot cakes.
