Famous Tomato Pie since 1924
Famous Tomato Pie since 1924

Unlike, say, Buffalo wings, tomato pie is one of those regional specialties that hasn’t gained much recognition outside of its ancestral homeland; in this case, Eastern Pennsylvania. But don’t call it pizza: tomato pie may resemble your standard Sicilian pie, but it differs in a few key ways: if there's any cheese it’s a sprinkling of Romano or Parmesan, it’s found at Italian bakeries instead of pizza joints, and it’s served at room temperature.
