Gullah Candy

This is a trio of traditional Gullah candies from the South Carolina Lowcountry, often sold on the streets of Charleston by elder Gullah women: black walnut brittle, benne (sesame seed) brittle, and groundnut (peanut) cakes!

Growing up on James Island just outside Charleston, Christina Miller started baking at age 4, helping her grandmothers (affectionately known as “Bert and T”) roll pie crusts and fill cake pans. Her love of baking continued into adulthood, and in 2021 she launched Bert & T’s Desserts. Christina’s traditional recipes for classic Southern and Gullah-inspired desserts have been passed down over generations through her grandmothers as well as the many other women she grew up around, and every item on her menu is made from scratch, using local ingredients whenever possible. This is a true taste of the Lowcountry, and it’s shipping nationwide!
