Back in 1930, 11 year-old Vincent Artuso emigrated from Italy to The Bronx, settling in the Belmont neighborhood’s Little Italy, which is today lovingly referred to as simply Arthur Avenue. As a teenager, Vincent trained as a pastry chef at a bakery on East 187th Street. After returning from World War II, he purchased the bakery, and Artuso Pastry Shop was born. With his siblings and wife Betty by his side, Vincent grew his shop into one of The Bronx’s most beloved Italian bakeries, more than tripling in size over the years. The Artuso family continues to run the bakery to this day, which has become an indispensable Arthur Avenue landmark – so much so that the block it’s on was officially renamed Vincent F. Artuso, Sr. Way in 1996.

A Bronx Family Tradition Since 1946
A Bronx Family Tradition Since 1946

If one bakery can embody the American Dream, it’s Artuso Pastry Shop. Back in 1930, 11 year-old Vincent Artuso and his siblings emigrated from Italy to The Bronx, settling in the Belmont neighborhood’s Little Italy, which is today lovingly referred to as simply Arthur Avenue. As a teenager, Vincent took a job washing pots and pans at a pastry shop on East 187th Street, eventually training there as a pastry chef. After returning from World War II, he purchased the bakery, and Artuso Pastry Shop was born.
With his siblings and wife Betty by his side, Vincent grew his shop into one of The Bronx’s most beloved Italian bakeries, more than tripling in size over the years and opening a wholesale bakery in Mt. Vernon, just north of New York City. Vincent and Betty’s sons Anthony and Joseph, along with Anthony’s children Anthony Jr. and Concetta, continue to run the bakery to this day, along with other members of the family, and Artuso has become an indispensable Arthur Avenue landmark – so much so that the block it’s on was officially renamed Vincent F. Artuso, Sr. Way in 1996. This is a true taste of The Bronx, and it’s shipping nationwide!
