Kenny & Ziggy’s is not only the top Jewish deli in Texas, but also one of the best delis in America. In the early 1900s, Max Gruber (Ziggy’s grandfather) left Budapest, Hungary, on a bicycle. He pedaled his way across Europe to the Atlantic coast and eventually sailed for the United States, ending up on New York’s Lower East Side. In 1927, he and his brothers-in-law Morris and Izzy Rappaport opened the first Jewish deli on Broadway! Two generations later, Houston businessman Lenny Friedman convinced third-generation deli man Ziggy Gruber that Houston needed an authentic Jewish deli of its own (Ziggy ran successful delis in New York and Los Angeles). The rest is delicious history.

This package serves 2-4 people and includes

  • 1 lb. Triple-Smoked Pastrami, Regular Cut
  • 8 Slices, Jewish Rye
  • 6 Pickles
  • 1 Bottle of Kenny & Ziggy’s Deli Mustard (13 oz.)
  • Ships fresh with ice packs, may thaw in transit
  • Bread may be kept at room temperature for up to 4 days. Do not refrigerate.
  • Mustard may be kept at room temperature, but once opened, it must be kept refrigerated.
  • Meat and pickles may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
  • Bread and meat may be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

To Serve

Boil Method

  • If frozen, allow the meat to defrost in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
  • Boil a pot of water on the stove.
  • Place meat in a colander and place it inside the pot. The meat should not touch the water.
  • Place a lid over the top of the colander and steam the meat on the stove for 1 minute or until hot.
  • Assemble, serve and enjoy!

Microwave Method

  • If frozen, allow the meat to defrost in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
  • Take a plate and two paper towels, wet the paper towels and wring it out until damp.
  • Place the meat flat between the two damp paper towels and wrap with plastic wrap, and microwave for 25 – 40 seconds. Do the lowest time to avoid frying the meat.
  • Assemble, serve and enjoy!

Bread

  • If frozen, allow bread to thaw at room temperature

After learning the business side-by-side with his father and grandfather starting as a young boy, Ziggy graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in London and trained in a three-Michelin star London restaurant before operating delis of his own in New York and Los Angeles and opening Kenny & Ziggy’s in 2000.  The rest is delicious history!
