Two Harbors, MN
A regular stopping point for travelers on Lake Superior’s North Shore, Betty’s Pies has been a Midwest favorite since Betty opened her doors in Two Harbors 1956. People come from all over the U.S.—and even the world—to taste their famous Five-Layer Chocolate and countless other legendary pies like Coconut Cream and Great Lakes “Crunch." It all began in 1956 when Betty's father Aleck built a fish shack by the Stewart River on Highway 61. Realizing the fishermen might enjoy some goodies while waiting during their pit stops, Betty started making donuts and coffee for them, adding hamburgers and hotdogs soon thereafter. However, the tipping point came when Betty added pies to her menu and as demand for these delicious and unique pies grew, their success would build a foundation for a baking legacy that has now lasted for over 60 years.
