Lazar Family Bakehouse

Mandel Bread Handcrafted Over Four Generations
It started with Grandma Jeanne, who baked her mandel bread by the handful and lived to 102. Her recipe passed through four generations before her great-grandson Jake began baking it in a rented kitchen in Bloomington, Indiana, to send to friends and family. Today Jake and his mom Victoria run Lazar Family Bakehouse, a small-batch bakery in Denver, Colorado, and Jeanne's photo is on every bag. Everything ships nationwide as a ready-to-give gift box.
Mandel bread, also called mandelbrot, is a twice-baked Jewish cookie with roots in Eastern Europe. Ours is softer and lighter than biscotti, made with oil rather than butter the traditional way, hand-sliced, and kosher-style (not certified). Perfect with coffee, tea, or on its own.
MandelBites are our bite-sized take on the original, in four flavors: Chocolate Chip, Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip, Almond, and Confetti. We also make classic Chocolate Chip Mandel Bread Two-Packs, the single-sitting size hotels put next to the coffee bar. Everything is shelf-stable, which makes it an easy Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanah, holiday, or thank-you gift from Colorado.
Five percent of our profits goes to food-focused charities, because Jeanne never showed up anywhere empty-handed.
