Angelaâs culinary journey began in the South Bronx, where she learned to cook alongside her parents, inspired by her motherâs homegrown herbs and intentional approach to flavor. After moving to Georgia in 2010 and spending years in the music industry, Angela began making empanadas for her recording-studio clientsâsharing a taste of home that quickly grew into something bigger. In 2016, La Jefa Empanadas was born.
When her son, Liam âBowieâ Washington, was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, Angelaâs mission deepened. Inspired by his creativity and need for better nutrition, she built La Jefa into more than a businessâit became a story of love, culture, and advocacy. Today, La Jefa Empanadas focuses on handcrafted wholesale production, catering, and nationwide shipping, bringing traditional and vegan Caribbean flavors to tables across the country.
