IT'S-IT Ice Cream

In San Francisco, IT'S-IT isn’t just a beloved ice cream sandwich, it’s a way of life. Back in 1928, George Whitney had the brilliant idea to place a scoop of vanilla ice cream in-between two fresh-baked oatmeal cookies, and to then give it a dunk into dark chocolate. Over the next 40 years these treats sold like hotcakes to visitors at San Francisco’s Playland-at-the-Beach, and its popularity has only grown since then, as San Francisco ex-pats began to spread the gospel and seek them out as a taste of home.

All these years later, the IT'S-IT recipes remain unchanged — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? These delightful ice cream sandwiches are what summer in San Francisco tastes like, but you don’t have to visit the City by the Bay for them to become a warm-weather tradition for you, too.
