New York's Nostalgic, Over-the-Top Dessert Bakeshop

Some bakers grow up. Gracie just got better at being a kid. Gracie Baked is the Long Island City bakeshop where childhood is the whole point, built on stuffed and dipped cookie bars and Baby Cakes layered with moist cake, whipped mousse, chocolate crunchies, and fluffy cream cheese buttercream, all boxed up to grab and go. Every treat traces back to something she actually loved: funfetti frosting straight from the jar, peanut butter and fluff after school, the sugar high of being nine years old.

The road here ran through a late-night college delivery service, a stint at Momofuku Milk Bar, and years teaching baking classes, including at The Door, the NYC nonprofit whose culinary grads she now hires as paid interns. The treats got bigger. So did the mission. Now those nostalgic, over-the-top desserts ship nationwide on Goldbelly. Growing up is mandatory. Outgrowing dessert isn't.
