Rhode Island Stuffies and Clamcakes Since 1936
In 1936 a chicken coop got hauled off Flo's farm down to the beach at Island Park in Portsmouth, and Flo's Clam Shack has been turning Rhode Island quahogs into stuffies and clamcakes ever since. The Hurricane of 1938 took the building. They rebuilt. Hurricane Bob flattened it in 1991. They rebuilt again, and opened a second shack down the island in Middletown, overlooking First Beach.
Ninety years on, the menu still runs on a short list: chowder, stuffed quahogs, clam cakes, fried clams. Flo's stuffies, clamcakes, and chowder are shipped nationwide on Goldbelly. Hurricanes took the building twice. Never the recipe.
