Opening in 1925, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q is one of the oldest barbecue restaurants in the country. Bob Gibson was a railroad worker in Decatur, AL who would smoke pork and chickens on weekends in a pit he dug himself. Hosting barbecues on a makeshift table in his backyard, Big Bob’s smoked meats became so popular that he opened his own restaurant. Over five generations later, Big Bob Gibson's world championship BBQ is an Alabama legend. That’s due, in part, to their white sauce, which Big Bob created. Tangy & peppery, white sauce is what everyone in Northern Alabama grows up on. Their hickory-smoked chickens, which are dunked in white sauce, became so influential that Big Bob spawned an entire regional style of BBQ centered around them.
