Modern Vietnamese From a MasterChef Champion
A Texas native and second-generation Vietnamese American, Christine Ha — the visually impaired chef who won MasterChef season 3 on FOX in 2012 under mentor Gordon Ramsay — brought that kitchen home to Houston as The Blind Goat, the Spring Branch restaurant behind crawfish, garlic noodles, and a menu of modern Vietnamese street food. What began in 2019 as a 400-square-foot stall in a downtown food hall earned three stars from the Houston Chronicle and a James Beard semifinalist nod for Best New Restaurant before growing into its own brick-and-mortar by 2023.
The menu runs on that same history, down to a "Rubbish" Apple Pie made famous on the show, finished with star anise, lemongrass, and fish sauce caramel. From a food hall stall to a James Beard ballot, The Blind Goat's modern Vietnamese cooking is shipped nationwide on Goldbelly. Saigon and the Gulf Coast, in the same box.
