Masa Madre was founded in 2019 by Tamar Fasja Unikel and Elena Vazquez Felgueres, two passionate bakers and longtime friends from Mexico City. It’s an artisanal bakery that’s become a viral hit in Chicago thanks to its unique blend of their Mexican and Jewish heritage. Masa Madre got its start in their home kitchens, with orders being taken through social media. It took off, and is beloved for its classic Jewish baked goods given a decidedly international spin.

  • Each babka serves 6-8 people, measures approx. 9″ × 4″, and weighs 1.2 lbs.
  • Each challah serves 6-8 people, measures approx. 15″ × 5″, and weighs 1.7 lbs.

Babka Options Include

  • Hot Chocolate – The all-time favorite, but better. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter, and ultra-chocolaty. You can never go wrong with this classic.
  • Pistachio Cardamom – An ode to Middle Eastern flavors – sweet, rich, and aromatic babka filled with vanilla, pistachio, and cardamom.
  • Cinnamon Churro – Just like a Mexican churro, this babka is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Delicious sugar & cinnamon filling makes this loaf irresistible!
  • Vanilla Rose – Rich vanilla filling with organic dried rose petals to give it a soft and subtle floral taste. This babka not only looks stunning but it tastes so good as the filling caramelizes and moistens all the babka layers.

  • Masa Madre ships Wednesday and Thursday of each week
  • Orders cannot be shipped to P.O. Boxes
  • Orders shipped to Alaska and Hawaii via 2-day will incur an additional $20 charge or $35 for Overnight Shipping. Sorry guys!
